On October 2, 2023, CHMRC made a significant contribution by delivering over half a million medical gloves and face shields to La Familia Sana, aimed at supporting local Sonoma County community-based safety net nonprofits. These nonprofits play a crucial role in assisting families and farmworkers in Northern Sonoma County and Southern Mendocino County.

“Sonoma County has been uniquely impacted by COVID and the fires, and we’re pleased to partner with wonderful organizations that have deep community roots and boots on the ground,” said CEO of CHMRC, Ellen Young.

La Familia Sana’s reach extends across Northern Sonoma County, encompassing areas like Cloverdale, Geyserville, Northern Healdsburg, and the surrounding unincorporated regions. It is a nimble bottom-up grassroots organization that assists underserved people and partner to co-create equitable and culturally cognizant solutions with community members to address long-term needs for healthcare, jobs, food, and education in the community.

Additionally, it serves Southern Mendocino County, including limited English-speaking clients from Hopland and Booneville. Notably, La Familia Sana serves a Hispanic/Latin community that constitutes nearly a third (32%) of the population, with 20% being foreign-born and 30% using a language other than English at home.

Jade Weymouth, Executive Director of La Familia Sana, said “Within hours of delivery many of our partners that work directly with our local populations were able to pick up gloves and face shields that are essential in the field. We’re excited to work with CHMRC and look forward to future collaborations.”

In its mission to build resilient communities, CHMRC establishes local health hubs through collaborations with regional community-based organizations, local health providers, and public health institutions. Beyond this role, CHMRC also functions as a local Medical Reserve Corps, ready to respond during disaster situations, with a focus on serving Placerville, California.

This collaborative effort between CHMRC and La Familia Sana serves as an example of the impact that organizations can achieve when they come together to support their local communities. With a shared dedication to community welfare, these organizations are turning compassion into tangible assistance. In a time when communities are grappling with diverse challenges, these acts of solidarity offer hope and pave the way for a more resilient and brighter future.
