Dr. Karen Joubert of Fairfield, CA, recently attended CHMRC’s Self Defense Class at our Solano Community Health Hub in Town Center in Fairfield, Ca. Here, she shares her experience and thoughts on the importance of such classes in the community.

What motivated you to take the self-defense class offered by CHMRC?

I decided to take the self-defense class because I enjoy walking and sometimes work late evenings. I wanted to feel safer while I walked in the evenings.

What were your initial impressions of the training?

At first, I thought we might be learning martial arts, but I was pleasantly surprised. We were shown how to use our bodies as shields and the importance of being aware of our surroundings. It was practical and empowering.

What key skills did you learn during the self-defense class?

We learned about using body pressure points for self-defense, which really boosts your confidence to protect yourself. This training not only helps you feel safer but also equips you to teach others how to defend themselves.
